shirodhara

Shirodhara is a classical and a well-established ayurvedic procedure of slowly and steadily dripping medicated oil or other liquids on the forehead. This procedure induces a relaxed state of awareness that results in a dynamic psycho-somatic balance.

We currently offer two styles of shirodhara; traditional herbal oil shirodhara, and water therapy shirodhara.

We currently offer two styles of shirodhara; traditional herbal oil shirodhara, and water therapy shirodhara.

Shirodhara induces a relaxed state of awareness that results in a dynamic psycho-somatic balance. Some benefits users can expect include:

At the start of the appointment, you’ll be asked to lie on your back and relax.

Next, the practitioner will heat up the liquid, either oil or water depending on which type of session you’ve booked, so it roughly matches your body temperature.

The liquid will gently drip through a small hole in the bottom of the bowl, or machine, landing between your eyebrows and slowly coat your head.

The whole process generally lasts anywhere from 20 to 90 minutes, depending on the length of the session you’ve booked.

If you’re going in for your first session, please advise your practitioner that its your first time so they may guide you through the process.

Women in the final phases of pregnancy should not opt for this treatment. A person who has an aversion to oil should refrain from traditional herbal oil shirodhara, although we also offer water therapy shirodhara performed entirely with water.

People who are not eligible include people suffering from a brain tumour, neck injury, cuts or abrasions on the forehead or fever.

People with some acute illness or suffering from nausea, vomiting, exhaustion, fatigue or spontaneous sweating should refrain from this treatment.

After your treatment, you’ll have to remove the oil from your hair, if you had a session with traditional herbal oils. The oil easily washes out with shampoo and a thorough rinse.

Caffeine should be avoided for a few days after the treatment as caffeine has a negative effect on the nervous system.
